First Visit

So...I began this blog to journal the happenings of our adoption but it seems as if it has now included the amazing journey of our foster care experience as well.  

Yesterday my husband and I met with our foster girl and her "team" for the first time.  I haven't seen her in over 2 years and she is just beautiful!  We had a great meeting and my heart is jumping for joy that God has chosen us to fill in the gap and love this girl.  We are going to have our first home visit on Sun and best of all, she wants to go to church with us!  We are going to watch football and I am going to make her a nice homecooked meal (she likes Italian) and it just so happens that I make a mean sauce with homemade meatballs! 


Thank you again Lord for allowing us to be your vessel.  Thank you for the heart of servanthood that you have bestowed on my family.  I feel so honored that you have chosen our family to minister to the lonely and the broken hearted...

I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!   Matthew 25:40

Foster Care

Through a course of events we were given an opportunity to take in a girl who is in the foster care system.  She was part of our church and in our youth group and has been in a residential facility for quite some time.  We didn't think that it would be allowable by our adoptiong agency but when God is in control anything is possible!!!!  

She was told last month (Nov 2012) that she would be coming to stay with us....well it is now a month later and still nothing.... I had spoken to the supervisor at DCF and was told that because we are not licensed she would not be able to come to us until that process in complete.  We have already begun our homestudy for the adoption and were told that because this is a special case we would have some time for that.  I was a bit deflated.  I have been communicating with this young girl and our family is anxious for her to come to us. Yesterday a friend of mine called me to inquire on the status, I pretty said we are just "waiting".  Another friend of mine called and said that she felt God telling her to fast for this girl so that the process would move along quickly.  By the end of the day we were assigned a social worker, a behavoralist, paperwork was being worked on....WOW!!!!!!  Today I get a phone call to verify a few things and was told that everything has been approved and is being sent on to start visits and eventually get her home with us! 

I can't tell you how grateful I am for the outpouring of the love and support we have gotten from our family and friends.  A year ago, I never dreamed we would be entertaining adoption OR foster care and here we are in the midst of both.  God's heart truly breaks for those alone, for those in need, for those who are suffering, for those who feel as if they have no hope.  Jesus is hope!  I pray that we would be worthy of the call that God has blessed us with.  I pray that we would be the vessel that He has called us to be. 

Next year we will be a family of 7....WOW!!!!!

Here we go...

On Aug 25, 2012 my husband and I decided to begin the exciting, frightening heart wretching, joyful journey of adoption.  The decision did not come without lots of prayer and God's confirmation.  We believe that God has called us to partner with him to bring home a little boy from Ethiopia and we are trusting in Him to be our Jehovah Jireh, our provider. 

We have begun our homestudy and completed our visits and interviews.  We now need to complete our paperwork and physicals.  So in addition, we are also in the midst of taking in foster care girl....again...an act of God.  She is a girl that we know from our youth group in church and have the opporunity now to bring her to our home and into our family.  OUR FAMILY.....

Our family...my husband and I have been married for just over 19 years and have 3 children of our own, 2 sons and a daugther.  John Jr (18), Sean (16) and Maeghan (12)....I am so thankful that our children are willing to take on this journey with us...if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have been able to do this.  God is so amazing and has blessed us with such amazing children!


 In October we had an enormous tag sale!  More like a flea market along with a bake sale...We raised all the money we need for the applications and homestudy and post placement visits with some left over. This was due from the generosity of some amazing family, friends and strangers!!!!...We had over 40 families donate their items, baked goods, and money for this cause and we are ever so grateful for their love and support! 








So here we are now.....in the next stage of this journey.  Trying to raise money for the rest of our fees.
