First Ethiopia Trip 2014

It was easiest to post our experience on facebook, because as some of you may know the wifi in Ethiopia is very sensitive.....I will repost  here.  Please be patient....It is quite long!  But worth the read!  God is so good!  And faithful!  We are still waiting to hear when we can go back.

I can't believe that this time tomorrow morning we will be in NY waiting to board our plane to Ethiopia. I can't explain my emotions....I have never had these feelings before at the same time. Anticipation, uncertainty, unsettleness, joy, love, and to be honest, a little fear. God does NOT give us a spirit of fear so I keep reminding myself of HIS promise and pray against that almost minute by minute.

Sitting here in the guest house office, it is 2:30 am. I still can't believe that we are here. I am so humbled that God, who could have chosen anyone else in this world, chose me and John to be our sons parents. And to travel half way across the world to bring him to our family. We wil meet him on Fri. But today we get to meet our 2 boys that we sponsor in Korah!!!! Can't wait to meet them too!!!!!!

April 10, 2014

Spent the day in Korah. What an experience! We were able to meet 1 of our sponsor children. Hopefully the other on Tues. The kids flocked to John! These children are so joyful and happy! Can't wait to go back on Tues!

So we met our son today! He is so precious. He loves his Dad! He wouldn't leave his side, he actually kicked off another child from his lap because he was jealous. He gives his dad googoo eyes!!!! I can't wait until I can post pictures and videos! I can't wait until my kids can meet him. He was looking at family photos today and said everyones name numerous times! He is going to know them by the time he comes home! Can't wait until tomorrow to see him again!!!!!

April 11, 2014 post #2
I am laying here in Mekele , Ethiopia trying to sleep but the past few days are unfolding in my head. We travel for 30 hours, arrive in a middle eastern country, visit a place called Korah where we meet people whom I have loved from afar for the first time, visit one of the poorest places in the world and in that place am touched with power of Gods love. Have dinner with our amazing American and Ethiopian friends. Travel to a place called Mekele and meet our son whom we have loved for a year and a half for the first time. And this is only day 2. Only by the power of The Lord can ones heart be touched so profoundly! We still have a week left!
Jer29:11 is the verse that comes to mind. This is most definitely His plan. For those of you who do not know this scripture, I urge and challenge you to open your bible and read it for yourself. It could change your life or at least put a new perspective on it. God is good all the time and all the time God is good!

Good morning from Mekele. This was our wake up this morning!!!!! After breakfast we go back to the orphanage and meet our sons dad. What a day ahead!

April 12, 2014
My heart can not contain the emotions of this day! We went to see our son this morning, and as soon as we walked through the gates of the orphanage he came running up to me and John. He didn't know which one of us to give a hug first! He had the biggest smile. He melts my heart. He has found a new best friend, his new dad! He would not leave his side all day! The cutest thing is when he rubs John chin b/c he has a little goti. I wonder what he is going to think when John shaves it off! The downfall of this day is that his dad never made it to the orphanage. We are hopeful that he will arrive tomorrow. Tomorrow is our last day here in Mekele. On Mon morning we fly back to Addis with our son! His first plane ride, I wonder what he is going to think!

Last day at the orphanage. Everyday there are so many more emotions! The children at the orphanage have stolen my heart. I pray that every child will be matched to a family soon! I didn't prepare myself for this day. I really didn't know how to. When we got to the orphanage this morning our son's father and brother were there. We all met in a little room so we could ask questions to each other. His father loves him so much! We learned alot about his family and I can't wait to be able to share some information with our son when he gets older. It was a very emotional meeting. I am so thankful that we now have pictures of him with his dad and brother. They will be cherished!!!!! Tomorrow we fly with our son to Addis where he will be in a different orphanage until sometime in May or June when we return to Ethiopia to bring him home. I thank God every night for the blessing and honor of being this boys earthly mom. I pray that someday I will have the opportunity in heaven to meet his heavenly mom. Thank you all for listening, it is very therapeutic to post these feelings and experiences! Thank you all for your prayers!

We haven't had wifi on a consistent basis, hence, I haven't been able to update much. Our flight from Mekele to Addis was a success! Bekru had a window seat and he was amazed at the views. He had a great time. When we returned to our guest house in Addis we had about 1/2 an hour with our children and they had to go back to the orphanage. Today we were able to spend about 1 hr with them. When Bekru was leaving he cried. It was so heartbreaking. WE will not see him again until our next trip. We both miss him very much already! Please pray for his little heart that is so confused and unsure right now. Thank you

What an amazing afternoon! We found out that we may be able to see our children tomorrow afternoon! And an unexpected surprise. Our boys from Korah, Temesgen Mengstu, Tamiru Kassa and Alex came to our guest house. They walked about 3 hours and took a taxi for the rest of the journey. We were able to provide them with hot showers and new clothes. John brought all 3 boys out to dinner. Last night I got food poisoning and have been really really sick. When the boys got back to our guest house they all laid hands on me and prayed in Amharic. It was one of the most amazing gestures! I love them all so much.

This is the last update as an official mom of 4. Tomorrow Bekru will legally be our son. God knew he would always be our son. This is just a legality. Taylor legally will be our daughter in May however she couldn't be more of our daughter if we tried!!!!! Court will begin at 9am!!!!! WOW!!! This is finally happening!!!!!!!! Yeah GOD!!!!!!

COURT DAY!!!

It is official. Bekru Adane Danko

April 18, 2014
What an emotional day. Court today was the easiest thing we have done the past two weeks. The hardest was saying goodbye to Bekru. When we put him in the van today he sobbed....loudly. He got out of the van 3 times, didn't want to let go of John. It was so heartbreaking. I pray that the rest of the paperwork will be finalized quickly so we can return soon!!!! I am looking forward to coming home to my children, who I miss very much, but we are leaving part of our heart here until we can come back and bring it home!!!!

April 22, 2014
Call out to my prayer warriors!!!!! So we were told that we would be able to bring Bekru home as soon as he cleared the embassy with his passport, visa, etc which would be 3-5 weeks. We are almost 1 week from our court date so it could be as early as 2-4 weeks before our return....Well.......every adoptee needs to have a TB test (swab test) and the results take 8 weeks. Bekru has a medical condition which requires him to stay the full 8 weeks, every other child from his orphanage will be going to their forever home in 2-4 weeks. They haven't even started the TB testing as of yet. Please pray that they would begin the test this week!!!! We are very anxious to get him home with us so we can begin putting our family back together!!!!! Please pray for his little heart and mind that he would understand that we love him and especially that God loves him and is with him during this time! Thank you!
